June 26, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met an uncle and two nephews at Wanahoo for the day. They caught excellent numbers of crappie all over the lake. They caught some nice bass also, I was just not able to find the stacks of bass that were biting last week. They said they caught more fish than any other day in their life. A good family day on the lake.
June 25, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a grandfather, son and five year old grandson to Wanahoo for a morning of fishing. We sat on stacks of panfish and kept the grandson active and having fun with the fishing all morning. He landed a double his first retrieve. We took a break and the youngster played on the nice playground that Wanahoo has in the camping area. An excellent three generation trip to the lake.
June 23, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took two fishing buddies to Wanahoo for the day. We targeted bass and were able to find some stacks of the very nice bass that Wanahoo has to offer. A very good day on the lake.
June 22, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a family trip with a brother and two sisters. They wanted to catch a bunch of fish so we targeted the crappie at Wanahoo. The bite was excellent, they kept a limit of crappie and released a whole lot more. They reminisced about the good old days of their family fishing trips to Minnesota and how much their dad enjoyed fishing with them. The weather was pleasant and they had an excellent family fishing trip.
June 21, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- My son wants to put on a fish fry for his co-workers so my son, nephew and I headed to Wanahoo for a couple hours to catch a mess of crappie for a meal. The crappie bite was excellent and we sorted through many fish to keep a limit for his fish fry. We also picked up some pike on the ultra light crappie outfits--a tough but doable land on four pound test.
June 20, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I stayed at Wanahoo for an afternoon to fish with a man and his father at Wanahoo. We started out crappie fishing and caught excellent numbers of crappie. After being forced off the lake by a thunderstorm, we went out bass fishing. They were able to sit on a stack of nice bass to finish out the afternoon. A great father and son trip on the lake.
June 20, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a morning trip with a grandfather and granddaughter at Wanahoo. We headed out to crappie fish and were able to anchor and catch very good numbers of crappie all morning. They kept a few for a meal and released the rest. The weather had cooled and was very pleasant. They both very much enjoy fishing and had a great morning on the lake.
June 19, 2016
Farm Pond- My son and I headed to a private farm pond for Father's Day. The bite was good for bass, crappie, and bluegill. Many of the bass were 16 to 18 inches, the bluegill were around 8 inches and the crappie were all 10 to 15 inches. A very good Father's Day of fishing.
June 17, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took two long time friends to Wanahoo for a day of fishing. The water cleared up and the fish were on the bite. We started catching excellent numbers of crappie then switched to bass. The bass bite was outstanding. They were able to catch lots of the good sized Wanahoo bass the entire afternoon. We switched back for a short while to catch some crappie for a meal. A fabulous day on the lake.
June 15, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with a grandfather, son and ten year old grandson. Much of Wanahoo had muddied up from some recent heavy rains in the watershed that drains into the lake and the bite and location changed dramatically from my recent trips to the lake. We found excellent numbers of nice bluegill along with some crappie and bass but it took until afternoon before I was able to locate the big schools of crappie. Once the crappie were located, we could catch them every cast. Very hot, humid weather and good fishing, just not the insane bite we had been seeing at Wanahoo the past few weeks.
June 14, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met three friends at Wanahoo for a day of fishing. We started the morning on a stack of nice Wanahoo bass. We switched to crappie and they were amazed at the numbers of crappie all over the lake. We also targeted some of the nice Wanahoo bluegill for a while and caught a handful of walleye. An excellent day on the lake.
June 13, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with a grandfather and two grandsons at Wanahoo for the afternoon. Wanahoo is a great action lake. They had a great time catching lots of crappie and bluegill along with bass and a walleye. The weather is hot and the fishing at Wanahoo is hot also.
June 10, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a father, 7 year old daughter, 3 year old son and family friend to Wanahoo for a morning of fishing. We stopped on spots with many fish to keep the kids busy. We took a playground break after a couple of hours and tried to keep the kids busy all morning. The kids learned how to catch fish and enjoy being in the boat for a few hours. A great morning on the lake.
June 8, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met a husband, wife and friend at Prairie Queen for a relaxing day on the water. We anchored and immediately were catching bass, crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish. Prairie Queen has a very nice picnic area by the boat ramp and we grilled brats for lunch. We went back on the water after lunch and caught many more fish and they had an excellent day on the lake.
June 7, 2016
Maple Creek- I took a person to Maple Creek for the day. As always with trips to Maple Creek, the focus is walleyes. The bite was slow but we were able to keep his limit of walleye plus some extras. He also caught fair numbers of good sized bluegill and some bass. Fishing was slower than hoped for but Maple Creek is still the only lake in the area to have a good chance of catching some nice walleyes.
June 5, 2016
Czechland and Wanahoo- I originally had a trip to Sherman scheduled with farmers. Unfortunately all the rains have them behind in field work and we are trying to reschedule for a later date. With the open date, my son and I went to Czechland for a couple hours, then Wanahoo for a few hours. The crappie bite and size at Czechland was fair. The water clarity is very poor. The bite at Wanahoo was good for bass with excellent size and the crappie bite was insane. The weather was excellent and we had a great time on the water. Wanahoo is seeing a lot of fishing pressure but seems to be handling the pressure well.
June 3, 4, 2016
Calamus Reservoir- I met a father, son, daughter and son-in-law at Calamus. They fished out of their boat and mine. Friday afternoon I took the son in my boat and we proceeded to catch very good numbers of white bass along with drum and walleye. Saturday morning I took the daughter and son-in-law to the area that had a lot of fish the day before and they proceeded very good numbers of white bass along with walleye and drum. Unfortunately as happens in Nebraska, the wind soon started to blow thirty to forty mph and we could not stay on the water. We fished a short while in an area we could manage the winds but there were only a few fish in the area. They were staying an extra day and hopefully the winds subsided and they were able to repeat the techniques in the area with the active fish and do well on their last day of the trip.
May 31, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a man and his father at Wanahoo. We started out crappie fishing and Wanahoo again produced hundreds. They kept their limit of 9 1/2 to 10 inch crappie. I next showed them where and how to target the bluegill and they caught good numbers of very nice bluegill. Next was bass fishing and they were able to land some very nice bass. The weather was excellent and so was the fishing.
May 28-30, 2016
Merritt Reservoir- My son and I met my nephew at Merritt Reservoir for the holiday weekend. On Saturday we targeted walleye and were able to catch thirty to forty walleye up to 22 inches. On Sunday the lake was glass calm so we targeted crappie in the shallow trees. Crappie fishing was very good and the size was excellent with many 12 to 14 inch fish in the mix. We fished for walleye again Monday morning before returning home. The bite was slower. We only managed a half dozen walleye. We videotaped dipping the trees for crappie. I will try to advance my technology skills and post the video.
May 24, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a mom, daughter, son and son's friend to Wanahoo to catch some fish. The plan was to keep the kids active on fish all day. The calm winds and the plentiful crappie at Wanahoo made this an easy task today. They caught lots of crappie along with some very nice bluegill. They kept about thirty 9 1/2 to 10 inch crappie for a fish fry and released the rest. An excellent day on the lake.
May 23, 2016
Maple Creek- I took two people to Maple Creek for the day. They caught many bass, some sunfish, crappie up to 12 inches and six of the walleye they landed were over the 15 inch minimum. The weather was very nice all day and the fishing was very good
May 22, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- My son and I went to Wanahoo for an afternoon of fishing. The crappie bite was outstanding with most of the fish from 8 to 10 inches and a few up to 11. The bass bite continues to be slow with good quality.
May 21, 2016
Wildwood- I took two people to Wildwood for the day. They wanted to get a good mess for a fish fry and Wildwood was up to the task. They easily caught a limit of very nice crappie up to 13 inches along with many 8 to 9 inch bluegill and good numbers of largemouth bass. A very good day on the lake.
May 20, 2016
Maple Creek- I had a trip with two people to Maple Creek to again try for walleye. The bigger walleye biting good today. They landed walleye up to 22 inches along with very good numbers of 8 to 9 inch bluegill and some bass and catfish. A good trip for walleye in this area.

May 17, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met two people at Prairie Queen for a day of fishing. The weather was fabulous and the fish were biting almost every cast all day long. They caught lots of crappie, bluegill and bass. Prairie Queen is developing nicely with several of the larger bass they caught reaching 16 inches. An excellent day on the lake.
May 15, 2016

May 13, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with a man and his father-in-law in their boat to Wanahoo. They wanted to learn fishing techniques and how to use their boat electronics. We started by catching crappie right away then proceeded to show them how to better use their electronics. Unfortunately the high winds came in sooner than expected. A short but successful trip.
May 12, 2016
Private lake- A person owns a place on a private lake about 45 minutes from Omaha and wanted to better learn how to catch fish on the lake for him and his family. We boated around the lake and I showed him where and how to catch more fish. He caught bass, crappie and bluegill and learned the best spot on the lake is his own dock. The lake has some excellent fish in it and he and his grandchildren will enjoy some excellent fishing together.
May 10, 2016
Maple Creek- I took a group to Maple Creek to try for some walleye. Maple Creek still has some nice walleye but the numbers are down from last year. Even with down numbers, Maple Creek has the best population of decent sized walleye in the area. They ended up with nine keeper walleye between 15 and 18 inches along with good numbers of bass and some nice bluegill. Pleasant weather and a good day of fishing.
May 8, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met a father and two children at Prairie Queen. The focus of the trip was for the kids to catch lots of fish and Prairie Queen did not disappoint. They caught lots of crappie along with very good numbers of bass, bluegill, and redear sunfish. We took a break, grilled hot dogs and brats for lunch, then finished the trip by catching lots more fish. An excellent family day on the lake.
May 7, 2016
Lake Cunningham- A man was new to the area and lives fairly close to Cunningham. I met him at the lake and after a short while he was catching crappie on every cast. The bulk of the crappie were staging in big schools just outside of their spawning areas. He kept the better ones for a meal and learned we have some very good fishing in the city of Omaha.
May 5, 2016
Prairie Queen- After taking some time for family functions and turkey hunting, I got back to being a fishing guide by meeting a man at Prairie Queen. The weather was fabulous and the fish were on the bite. He caught lots of bass, crappie, bluegill and redear sunfish. A great day to be on the lake.
April 29, 2016
Lake Zorinsky- I met a person at Zorinsky who wanted to learn how to operate a boat properly and how to catch walleye. I helped him with boat control techniques, how to use sonar, different fishing techniques and most importantly how to catch walleye. He was able to land ten walleyes along with catching crappie, bass, bluegill and we boated a muskie. The weather was cold but the fish were cooperative and he had a very successful day on the lake.
April 28, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met a person at Prairie Queen for the day. He caught lots of crappie along with some bass bluegill. The largest bass was 16 inches, the largest bluegill was near 8 inches and a fair number of crappie were right at 10 inches. Prairie Queen will continue to improve and become on of the best lakes in the area.
April 26, 2016
Lake Cunningham- I met a group at Cunningham for the day. The crappie bite was again excellent. They caught lots of crappie at different spots on the lake. They sorted through many fish and kept their limit of mostly 9 to 11 inch fish. Another excellent day on the lake.
April 25, 2016
Lake Cunningham- I met a father and two sons at Cunningham. We marked areas with crappie and they caught them non-stop all day long, often two at one time. The weather and the fishing were both excellent. A great day on the lake with a father and sons.
April 24, 2016
Lake Cunningham- I met a grandfather and two grandsons and Cunningham for a morning of fishing. The crappie bite was outstanding. They caught countless numbers of crappie along with some bluegill, bass and two small walleye. The rain held off and they had an excellent morning on the lake.
April 23, 2016
Linoma Beach- A person keeps a place on Linoma Beach for the summer, purchased a new boat and fish finder and wanted to learn how to best use them. He learned how to set up and read his sonar, then we took the kids fishing. Linoma is an excellent crappie lake. The kids learned some simple techniques to catch some very nice crappie. A very good morning on the water.
April 22, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met a grandfather, son and grandson at Prairie Queen for the day. The grandson wanted to catch some bass. He was able to catch a decent number of bass along with some crappie, bluegill and a catfish. We had good weather and a nice trip but I thought the bite would be non-stop and it was only fair for the day.
April 21, 2016
Maple Creek- My trips to Maple Creek have been getting cancelled due to weather so I decided to go check on the bite by myself. I fished for a little over two hours and caught ten bass and four very nice 17 to 20 inch walleye. Hopefully some trips can get scheduled on a day when the weather cooperates.
April 19, 2016
Lake Cunningham- My son and nephew met me at Cunningham when they got off work. We fished for about three hours and caught lots of crappie along with some bluegill, a couple bass and nine small walleye. We finally had a day without wind and the fishing was excellent.
April 18, 2016
Prairie Queen- I met two friends at Prairie Queen for the day. We spent most of the morning fishing for bass and the bite was good. After lunch we got into a big school of crappie and they caught lots of crappie up to 10 inches. The rainy, cool weather did not stop a very good day of fishing.
April 17, 2016
Lake Zorinsky- Rescheduling of some high school baseball games to Sunday resulted in a late cancellation of a fishing trip so I headed to Zorinsky to shore fish for walleye with my son and nephew. The walleye were in their usual seasonal spot. We caught about thirty with four of them above the 15 inch minimum.
April 16, 2016
Walnut Creek- I met a father and son at Walnut Creek for the afternoon. The father has recently developed an eye disease and is blind. He demonstrated that he was at one time a very capable fisherman. He was able to cast and catch many fish without help while I helped his seven year old boy cast and catch fish. An exceptionally rewarding and enjoyable afternoon on the lake.
April 15, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a person at Wanahoo. He wanted to strictly bass fish. The bite was very slow and the 30 mph winds made exploring the lake very difficult. Wanahoo is typically the most active lake I fish, unfortunately this was the opposite of one of those days.
April 12, 2016
Lake Zorinsky- I met a person at Zorinsky for an afternoon of fishing. We found the crappie stacked in a couple areas of the lake and caught very good numbers of crappie along with some bluegill and a couple of bass. The crappie were numerous but not as large as I hoped they would be this year. Most of the crappie were 7 to 8 inches. We sorted through a lot of fish to keep his limit of 8 1/2 inch to 10 inch crappie. The winds were moderate which made for a more pleasant time on the water compared to the last few days.
April 11, 2016
Walnut Creek, Prairie Queen- I did a two lake trip with a group. We started at Walnut Creek and caught some crappie and bluegill. When the winds picked up, we headed over to Prairie Queen to get out of the wind and catch some bass. The bass bite was decent at Prairie Queen with fish up to 16 inches. Chilly and windy weather but the decent bite made for an enjoyable day of fishing.
April 9, 10 2016
Lake Wanahoo- My son and I went to Wanahoo to bass fish over the weekend. I had some family trips planned but the with the recent high winds, I rescheduled the trips. The Wanahoo bass continue to improve in size and we caught some very nice bass. As soon as the weather improves, we should be able to catch better numbers. The crappie have finally started to move off their wintertime areas.
April 7, 2016
Prairie Queen- I had a family boat trip planned to Prairie Queen but the forecast of wind gusts to 50 mph changed the plans. For safety reasons I did not want to fish in the extreme winds, instead we fished from shore for a couple hours. The winds made shore fishing difficult also. We were only able to land a few small bass. Fishing is always good versus not fishing but hopefully the extreme winds of late will modify soon and we will be able to get back on the water and get back to some normal fishing days.
April 6, 2016
Prairie Queen- I scheduled a trip to Prairie Queen on April 7 and wanted to see if the fishing would be reasonable with the windy forecast. The winds were blowing 20 to 30 but I was able to duck into the trees and catch very good numbers of bass. The bass are growing good at Prairie Queen and the lake should continue to develop into a very good fishing lake.
March 29, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- The plan was to take a person to Maple Creek and check on the walleye bite. Mother nature put some storms through Maple Creek and we ended up at Wanahoo instead. The wind was howling but we were able to find an area of very active crappie and sit in that area for the day. We also picked up some nice bass. Very good fishing on a very windy day.
March 22, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with a man and his son to Wanahoo. The weather was very nice and we spent the day catching crappies. The bite was steady and methodical most of the day until later in the afternoon when we were able to find an active stack that was feeding in an easy to catch spot. A good day of fishing and a very nice day to be on the lake.
March 21, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with two cousins to Wanahoo for the day. We found the crappie right away in the trees but the windy conditions made catching them tougher than normal. They had to drop into the thick of the trees to catch the most fish which resulted in quite a few lost jigs, but we were still able to land over a hundred crappie. They kept twenty five mostly 9 1/2 to 10 inch fish and released the rest. One of them also landed a 19 1/2 inch bass out of the trees on a crappie jig. A slow day for Wanahoo but still a nice day on the lake.
March 20, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a person to Wanahoo for the afternoon. The fish had moved from my last trips to the lake and it took a little while to locate good numbers of crappie, but once located, they were very willing biters. We each kept some for a meal and released the rest. A couple of pike also bit the crappie jigs. Chilly but light winds made for a nice afternoon on the lake.
March 15-17, 2016
Stockton Lake, Missouri- I took a trip to visit my brother and his wife at their ranch by Stockton Lake. We spent some time on the lake and caught walleye, black bass, crappie and white bass. The white bass bite was best with many master angler white bass in the mix. Always fun to visit and fish with family.
March 13, 2016
Zorinsky Lake- My son and I went to Zorinsky to target walleye. We caught very good numbers of walleye but the size was not as good as I would have hoped for. We also caught bass, crappie and bluegill. Zorinsky should develop more and more each year.
March 12, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- My son and I went to Wanahoo to bass fish. The bass at Wanahoo continue to grow. Even though we did not catch bass in good numbers, the ones we caught were very good quality with all of them over 3 pounds. The bite will still be up and down until we get to April.
March 11, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a person to Wanahoo to catch some fish. We targeted crappie and Wanahoo was more of the same with lots of crappie biting. He kept his limit of 9 to 11 inch crappie and released many others. Pleasant weather for March and great fishing.
March 8, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a person at Wanahoo for the afternoon. He likes to target crappie and Wanahoo is a great lake for crappie numbers. Even though we were catching very good numbers of crappie right away, it took a couple of hours to find good numbers of the better sized Wanahoo crappie. We eventually got to an area of better crappie and he was able to keep his limit of 10 inch crappie. A very good afternoon on the lake.
March 7, 2016
Youngman Lake- The weather exceptionally nice and I went to Youngman and fished from shore for a couple of hours. Fish move into the shallows during warm days this time of year and shore fishing is just so relaxing one has to go out. All you need is one rod, a crappie jig, a small bobber and a bucket to sit on. Bass, crappie and bluegill were all biting. A very nice day to be outdoors.
March 6, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a man and his nephew who was visiting over spring break to Wanahoo. They like to catch and eat crappie and Wanahoo is loaded with them. They were able to keep their limit of 9 to 10 inch crappie in a small twenty foot area in just two hours. A great start to the 2016 open water season.
February 15, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a group of four to Wanahoo. They were off work for President's day and wanted to enjoy the day. The weather was exceptionally nice for ice fishing. We sat in an area that held many crappies. They drank some beer, ate some brats, kept their limit of crappie and they all had a great day on the ice.
February 14, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a husband, wife, son and girlfriend at Wanahoo. I shot through the ice and it took longer than normal, but we were able to set up on good numbers of crappie and some bluegill. They learned how to use the electronics and the technique for catching the fish. They improved their catch rates throughout the entire day. The fish were above average size for what we have been catching at the lake. They kept some for a meal and released the rest. Comfortable temperatures for ice fishing and a very good ice fishing trip.
February 13, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a family at Wanahoo. This was their first time ice fishing. Temperatures were cold and the wind had a bite so I tried to set up on a spot we could catch fish without moving. I looked through the ice a little and set up. The spot held very good numbers of crappie and some bluegill. After grilling brats for lunch, I set up a couple of tip-ups and they were able to land their first pike. The girls played on the ice, fished, sang songs, laughed and the entire family had a wonderful first time ice fishing experience.
February 11, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a husband and wife at Wanahoo. This was her first time ice fishing and she was amazed at how light the bite can be through the ice. Wanahoo has a lot of fish and she got lots of practice at it. The bite got better in the afternoon and they were able to catch very good numbers of crappie and bluegill. They kept some nice ones for a couple of meals and released the rest. All ages from children to great grandparents enjoy catching fish and this was a very enjoyable day with great grandparents doing just that.
February 9, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a father and his children at Wanahoo. They live near the lake and enjoy the outdoors but were inexperienced at ice fishing. We set up out of the cold wind but there were few fish on the first spot. I surveyed some spots, found some fish and the bite was on. They proceeded to catch lots of crappie and some very nice bluegill. Each time the children caught a fish, they had that extreme excitement in their voice that only children have. Repeatedly hearing their voices say "I've got one" always makes for an outstanding fishing trip.
February 7, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- Two retired friends wanted to catch some crappie and be home in time for the Super Bowl. We went to Wanahoo and they caught lots of crappie. The temperatures were pleasant and we were able to sit in the trees out of the wind. They fished a few hours and kept their limit of 9 to 11 inch crappie. They also picked good numbers of bluegill up to 9 inches. An excellent morning of ice fishing.
February 6, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took a group of friends to Wanahoo. The weather was extremely nice for ice fishing and the crappie were biting. They kept a decent number of crappies to eat and released the rest. A very good day of weather and fishing on the ice.
February 4, 2016
Wildwood Lake- The weather cleared after the winter storm and I headed to Wildwood with a friend. The weather was very nice and we went around the lake and caught bluegill and crappie. I kept a half dozen panfish for a meal. The crappie were 10 to 12 inches and the majority of the bluegill were 7 to 9 inches. A pleasant day on the ice.
Fishing Perspective: The last weekend of January was one of those times that typified that as much as I want everyone to have a great trip catching the targeted fish, things just don't always work out that way. On Saturday I took my first trip of the year to Czechland and the group had the best big crappie day I have had through the ice thus far this year with good numbers of crappie in the 12 to 13 inch range. I took a group to Czechland the next day with extreme optimism because I was on the location and lure presentation for those big crappie. The next day, Sunday, was the worst day for crappie I have had all year with only five over the 10 inch minimum. What causes the bite to change that dramatically from one day to the next, I do not know. The weather was identical. The spots had lots of fish on them. The fish that were biting all day were just bluegill and not crappie. We switched tactics, tried some other spots and had the same results everywhere, lots of bluegill and very few crappie. I sometimes think I have it all figured out and the fish slap me in the face and say "No you don't".
January 31, 2016
Czechland Lake- I took a group to Czechland for a day on the ice. What a difference a day can make, unfortunately the difference was the wrong way. They were able to catch lots of fish but they were mostly 5 to 8 inch bluegill, not what we were targeting. We caught only 5 crappie over the 10 inch Czechland minimum. Just one of those days where the fish we wanted to catch were not biting.
January 30, 2016
Czechland Lake- Three guys who were college buddies book me for an ice fishing trip every year. This year we went to Czechland. We marked fish, drilled some holes and started catching fish. The fishing was excellent for both numbers and size, with crappie up to 13 inches. They drank some beers, talked some smack and had an outstanding day on the ice.
January 29, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took three people to Wanahoo for their first ice fishing venture. Wanahoo has been very busy during the ice season and I took this group to an area that had not been fished. We located some large stacks of crappie and sat on them all day. The weather was fabulous and the bite was too. A great first day of ice fishing for the group
January 27, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I met a father and children at Wanahoo. We went to an area that has been holding a lot of fish, showed them how to catch the fish and they were off to the races. They caught many crappie and bluegill. They were all very happy to learn how to catch fish through the ice. They released all the fish and everyone had an excellent time of ice fishing.
January 26, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I took two people to Wanahoo. They wanted to catch panfish and try for some northern pike. They were able to catch lots of crappie and bluegill and entice a few pike to bite. The weather was very pleasant for ice fishing and Wanahoo produced another great ice fishing trip.
January 24, 2016
Lake Wanahoo- I had a trip with a grandfather, son and two grandchildren at Wanahoo. Wanahoo was again a great lake for a family outing on the ice. They caught hundreds of crappie along with good numbers of bluegills. The weather was fabulous, they caught lots of fish, the kids ran around and played on the ice, and I grilled brats. Life doesn't get much better than that.

Lake Wanahoo- I took a group of three to Wanahoo. We were able to set up the huts on one area and not have to move the entire day to catch fish. They caught hundreds of crappie along with some very nice bluegill. As with many people that are new to ice fishing, they were amazed at the numbers of fish that could be caught through the ice. They kept a nice mess for a meal and everyone had an excellent time during their time on the ice.

Lake Wanahoo- A family from a southern state that enjoys the outdoors recently moved to the area and wanted to try their hand at ice fishing. I took them to Wanahoo. The weather was cold but very tolerable with the light winds. I set the huts up on a couple of spots where they could catch crappie all day long. The children would catch fish then take breaks and run around on the ice for a while. They kept a good mess of fish and released a whole lot more. An excellent family day on the ice.

Lake Wanahoo- I took a person Wanahoo for some ice time. He said he had ice fished 4 previous times and had not caught a fish. Wanahoo changed that for him in a minute. He proceeded to catch lots of crappie from 8 to 11 inches. The weather was very cold but we sat in the ice hut with heater going and stayed comfortable. He kept a limit to eat and had a very good day on the ice.

Lake Cunningham- I met two brothers at Cunningham. One of the brothers lives near the lake and wanted to learn how to ice fish and where to ice fish at Cunningham. I showed them how to find fish, drilled some holes, set up the ice hut and they started catching fish. The morning bite was very good and the weather was very pleasant for ice fishing. The front came through in the afternoon and both the weather and the fishing cooled down some. One of the brothers five year boy joined us for a short while and caught several fish on his own. I grilled some brats and everyone had a good day on the ice.

Wildwood Lake- I took two friends to Wildwood for the day. We quickly located fish, drilled some holes and proceeded to catch many fish. They caught lots of quality bluegill along with very good numbers of 10 to 12 inch crappie. The weather was excellent for ice fishing with temperatures around forty and very light winds. A great day on the ice.

Lake Wanahoo- I took a quick trip to Wanahoo to catch some crappie for a family meal. Wanahoo has lots of crappie with enough of them in the 9 to 10 range to make a good meal. The ice conditions continue to improve and the bite was excellent.

Cunningham Lake- I went to Cunningham to check on ice and fishing conditions. The ice was consistently 7 inches plus everywhere and the panfish bite was very good.

Czechland Lake- My family was still in town and some went to Czechland for a few hours. The very cold temperatures did not affect the fishing. The bluegill were impossible to keep off the hook and some nice crappie were biting. The lack of wind made for a pleasant morning of ice fishing.

Wildwood Lake- My relatives were in town visiting and they were willing to brave the sub-zero wind chills and head to Wildwood to catch some fish. We were able to get on good numbers of 10 to 12 inch crappie along with lots of bluegill-- some that reached master angler size. A very cold but successful day of ice fishing.

Wildwood Lake - I had guests in town from China. They are from a medium sized city of eight million and like most people in China, had never done anything in the outdoors. We purchased their fishing licenses and took them on an ice fishing trip to Wildwood. I taught them how to use a rod and reel and they proceeded to catch very good numbers of nice bluegill and crappie. We kept some and cooked them up a meal of fresh fish that evening. A great day for mother and daughter on their first trip to the outdoors.
